Late Hunte strike gives Benedict's edge over Pres: St Benedict's 2 - 1 Presentation
A 90th minute strike from Marc Anthonie Hunte gave St Benedict's the victory on Saturday after a keenly fought contest between themselves and rivals, Presentation College at Guaracara Park. Both teams were quite evenly matched and the game was goalless at the end of the first half.
Five minutes after the restart Presentation had a golden opportunity to take the lead after Wesley John was brought down in the St Benedict's penalty box and the referee wasted no time in pointing to the penalty spot.
Kevin Moodie, with already one penalty to his name this season after scoring against Naparima, stepped up to take it but Kingsley Noel guessed correctly and dove to his right to block the shot. A brief controversy followed about whether or not Noel moved off his line before the shot, but the penalty kick was not retaken.
Presentation did go on to take lead in the 62nd minute however through Tristan Khan when he unleashed a shot from the edge of the penalty box. The shot seemed harmless enough but Noel failed to hold on to it and allowed the ball to slip between his legs and into the goal giving Presentation the lead.
Benedict's equalized in the 80th minute when Troy Moses floated a lovely shot over a diving Wesley Douglas from the right hand side into the side netting. It was end to end action at that point with both teams searching for the winner.
Just when the game appeared to be heading for a draw some slack Presentation defending gifted the ball to Marc Anthonie Hunte and he made no mistake sticking it past Douglas from just outside the six yard box to give his team the win.
Presentation continue to look for their first win of the 2009 campaign and they face Siparia, also looking for their first victory on Tuesday 8th September. St Benedict's next match is on Saturday 12th September when they visit the high flying Shiva Boys.
