El Do retain SSCL title

El Dorado East Secondary retained their PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) title thanks to a 127-run victory over Fatima College in the final round of matches in Division One yesterday.

Travis Karim made a vital 72 (two fours, one six) to help El Do reach 215 for five in their reduced 35-over game at Fatima Ground, Mucurapo.

The hosts offered little resistance and were dismissed for 88, Brent Cameron top-scoring with 32.

Namir Suepaul grabbed five for 17, while Karim chipped in with two for 24 and West Indies Under-19 all-rounder Yannic Cariah took two for 22.

Presentation College Chaguanas finished the league in second place after their 112-run victory over Naparima College.

Pres made 309 for three, thanks to an undefeated 162 (15 fours, two sixes) from Windies U-19 vice-captain Yannick Ottley, who returned to take four for 24 as Naparima were restricted to 197 for nine.

Third place Hillview College also finished in style with a handsome 235-run victory over Toco Secondary.

Hillview made 340 all out, Duane Cockburn top-scoring with 69.

Toco were then dismissed for 105 runs, Anthony Simmons picking up his best figures of the season, seven for 37.

In Division Two, Shiva Boys Hindu College won the league with a perfect record, finishing undefeated after completing a 104-run victory over St Mary’s College yesterday.

Shiva Boys made 294 all out and dismissed St Mary’s for 190.

Princes Town West Secondary were second in the division after their 120-run win over Manzanilla High, while San Fernando Central Secondary came in third following their four-wicket win over St Augustine Secondary.
